I am a native of Okohia, Osu Owerre, Isiala Mbano in Imo state and am a graduate of the Federal University of Technology Owerri, happily married and a strong believer in the Lord Jesus Christ!
I am a member of the PDP and our primaries are around the corner hence I am working round the clock trying to promote my candidacy to my party delegates (Ward and LGA executives) to win their votes and secure the party’s nomination to represent the party in the 2019 general elections.
I want to help restore hope to the hopeless and deal with poverty in Isiala Mbano/Okigwe/Onuimo Federal Constituency and beyond. I know I must do everything in my power to avoid the pitfalls of our past and present political leaders and representatives.
If I am given the opportunity to represent Isiala Mbano/Okigwe/Onuimo Federal Constituency, I will ensure my people are given quality representation at the federal level and that I attract significant development to the constituency and the state.
My core focus when voted into office will be “Economic empowerment”. This is due to the fact that legislative activity alone cannot make the desired direct impact on the lives of our people considering our political situation.
I am calling on you to support this vision by donating to my campaign to enable us finance our over 330 meetings with party executives, constituents and volunteers.
JUSTIN EKELE NWEMEH FOR HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES (OKIGWE NORTH)
I am a native of Okohia, Osu Owerre, Isiala Mbano in Imo state and a graduate of the Federal University of Technology Owerri, happily married and a strong believer in the Lord Jesus Christ!
I am a member of the PDP and our primaries are around the corner hence I am working round the clock trying to promote my candidacy to our party delegates made up of Ward and LGA executives. I am seeking my party’s nomination to represent the party in the 2019 general elections.
I contested for the House of Representatives seat for Okigwe North (Isiala Mbano/Onuimo/Okigwe) Federal Constituency on the platform of the Labour party in 2015 but lost due to rigging and vote buying but in consideration of my popularity and goodwill, my people have called upon me again to re-contest for the same seat in 2019. The political parties have denounced this ugly system of rigging and the INEC has rolled out additional measures to check this menace which produces incompetent and corrupt political office holders. A significant number of INEC staff and politicians caught in the act of rigging during the 2015 elections have been convicted by the courts and are serving their various terms. There is a strong awareness against this brand of politics today.
Sincerely, since the advent of democracy in the last fifteen years the National Assembly seemed to me like a joke with consistent news of fights within the chambers, bribery, defections, delayed and non passage of bills. I and my team have equally taken time to conduct surveys within our constituency to determine the effect and impact of the 3 tiers of government on the lives of our people. The result was disappointing. I am keenly aware of the damage public corruption inflicts on our democracy and this sense of betrayal undermines faith in our system.
Since our National Assembly is only a smaller representation of the larger society from where our parliamentarians are drawn, I have resolved to attempt to improve the representation of our people in the Federal House of Representatives and attract significant and meaningful development to Isiala Mbano, Okigwe and Onuimo LGAs. I am aware of the enormous work this would require and the challenges I am about to undertake but I have made up my mind to make this sacrifice God helping me.
For the past 12 years I have trained over 10,000 persons, recruited and managed over 2,000 employees and have come to understand that, lack of gainful employment and development is a major challenge we face as a nation.
I have seen people fight and struggle over very limited job opportunities and have watched those of them that lost out weep in disappointment. Our people (both young and old) need information and direction. Our people deserve a decent and better life because God has blessed us with abundant resources to work with.
Today I want to help restore hope to the hopeless and deal with poverty in Isiala Mbano/Okigwe/Onuimo Federal Constituency and beyond. I know I must do everything in my power to avoid the pitfalls of our past and present political leaders and representatives. I acknowledge that democracy has brought an opportunity for a ‘better life’ for all, although this life is full of challenges and is characterized by a lack of basic necessities e.g. water, healthcare, education, power, infrastructure etc.
If I am given the opportunity to represent Isiala Mbano/Okigwe/Onuimo Federal Constituency, I will ensure my people are given quality representation at the federal level and that I attract significant development to the constituency and the state. I will be a significant and active voice for Okigwe North within and outside Nigeria.
We have developed a program and strategy which alleviates poverty, ensures economic empowerment, provides qualitative health care and information technology. The core focus of this program when voted into office will be “Economic empowerment”. This is due to the fact that legislative activity alone cannot make the desired direct impact on the lives of our people considering our political situation.
Our aim is to make sustainable improvements in the lives of the needy and less privileged within Isiala Mbano/Okigwe/Onuimo Federal Constituency by supporting empowerment programs which will significantly impact the communities positively.
I shall ensure the sponsorship of several skills acquisition and empowerment workshops and seminars; and we shall embark on programs that seek to directly help our people within the constituency raise their incomes and standards of living and especially in the short term. Unemployment will be addressed immediately by empowering over 5,000 people in our Federal Constituency through sponsored skills development and training programs which will at the end avail them sizeable grant packages to start up viable businesses. Our economic empowerment program shall include the following;
Education is essential for everyone and it is the level of education that helps people earn respect and recognition. I believe it is an indispensable part of life both personally and socially. The importance of education is undeniable for every single person. Education has a positive effect on human life and everyone needs to study. Only with the advent of education can people empower themselves, gain knowledge and enlarge their views.
Education and particularly the quality of education within the constituency will be emphasized by us. This will be achieved by a number of measures including: skills development training programs for teachers (which will include computer literacy), provision of books to students at all levels (ie primary, secondary and tertiary), provision of bursaries to indigent students from our constituency in tertiary institutions within Nigeria and payment of additional allowances to motivate teachers etc.
Agriculture is the predominant occupation of two-third of the working population for their livelihood, the major source of income for over three quarter of the world’s populations who live in villages and it provides raw materials for manufacturing and food industries. Agricultural extension programs will be carried out under this project area having educators from different disciplines teach constituents new farm production techniques.
Our dream is to make Okigwe North a major commercial farming hub which will supply affordable agricultural products to the rest of the state and beyond. Okigwe North has abundant arable land which can engage several interested constituents in arable farming focused on the production of palm kernel, bitter leaf, corn, cassava, mango, pear and vegetable in commercial quantities. For commercial livestock farming, we shall focus in the production of cattle, goat, fish, chicken and turkey.
We have considered the available rural development and agricultural finance schemes under the CBN and Bank of Agriculture (BOA) to help startup 1,500 farmers every year in Isiala Mbano, Onuimo and Okigwe. Constituents will be able to access financing at very minimal or zero interest rates under my watch.
Information technology is related to studying, designing and developing information related to computers and millions of jobs have been created in this field. The importance of Information technology in education and business is very significant and cannot be over emphasized.
Studying with the help of online libraries, dictionaries and encyclopedias has made grasping and increasing knowledge easy for students and teachers. It also helps managers to adapt to new business processes and acquiring knowledge and information across the world.
We shall embark on the establishment of well equipped Information centers with over 50 computer systems targeting the youths in each of the local government headquarters within our constituency. These information centers will be designed specifically for storing, processing, and retrieving information for dissemination at regular intervals by our people within the constituency. Everyone will be entitled to a minimum usage time of 1 hour per day on demand.
Microfinance is a general term to describe financial services to low-income individuals or to those who do not have access to typical banking services. It is also the idea that low-income individuals are capable of lifting themselves out of poverty if given access to financial services.
Studies indicate that microfinance can play a role in the battle against poverty even though it should never be seen as the only tool for ending poverty. I will avail my constituents, microfinance programs which will provide small-scale financial services to enable the poor among them startup small businesses. These credits are designed to foster sustainable economic empowerment and capacity building for a minimum of 900 traders in our rural communities and villages Isiala Mbano, Onuimo and Okigwe. In order to accommodate petty traders in villages within our constituency, we shall commence a micro lending scheme through any of the microfinance banks within the 3 local government areas. This scheme shall make available a minimum of N50,000 (fifty thousand Naira) to the first 900 applicants doing small scale businesses or petty trading within the constituency and with a repayment cycle of 12 months.Health Care
Over 50% of the Nigerian population dwells in rural areas. These rural dwellers work primarily as petty traders, farmers and farm workers. Rural populations are poorer, sicker, older, uninsured and medically underserved than urban populations. People in rural areas face different health issues than people who live in towns and cities. Getting quality health care is a problem for those who live in rural areas.
Rural areas often have fewer doctors and nurses, and certain specialists might not be available at all. People in rural areas have higher rates of chronic disease than people in urban areas. When I visited the general hospitals in my constituency during my campaigns in 2015, I observed that a significant number of nursing mothers were trapped in the hospitals because they could not pay their bills. They had been discharged but could not go home. We assisted as much as we could at that point to release these women to go home.
Hence, we shall establish a quarterly health care outreach program which seeks to promote rural health care in Isiala Mbano, Okigwe and Onuimo LGAs. The health care outreach team shall conduct health screenings, diagnosis, surgeries and dispense drugs free of charge. Priority will also be given to nursing mothers within the federal constituency who cannot pay their hospital bills.
This program will cater for members of our rural communities who cannot afford quality healthcare services at the health centers or general hospitals. The communities being served will be involved in the development and operational management of the program, to appropriately address the needs of the local population.
